Plans to create a transport link between the famous tourist sites of the Tombs of the Kings and Coral Bay were discussed at a meeting in Akamas Municipality on Friday to coordinate the project. Government officials and designers took part in the discussion.
Deputy Mayor Andreas Christodoulou stressed the importance of the initiative, noting that it will be an important factor for the future economic development of the region and the improvement of infrastructure. The project includes the creation of an eight-kilometer road with two-lane traffic, bicycle paths and green areas, as well as the installation of underground lighting and modern telecommunications systems.
According to Christodoulou, the design began several years ago, but implementation was repeatedly postponed due to a number of political decisions. However, thanks to the active position of local authorities, in particular the Akamas Municipality and the Kissonerga Community, the process has finally moved forward. The project is included in the 2024-2026 budget, and the necessary studies and preparatory work will be carried out in the next two years, with construction scheduled to begin in 2026.
Christodoulou also stressed that the municipality will provide all-round support for the speedy completion of the works, as this project will have a significant impact on the development of the economy and improving the quality of life in the region.
