The process of issuing residential building permits accelerated significantly in the first half of 2024. The number of issued residential building permits increased by 29.2%, reaching 3,171 compared to 2,455 in the same period of 2023. There was also a 44.4% increase in the expected number of residential units, reaching 7,616 compared to 5,276 in the same period of the previous year.
The increase was particularly noticeable in the category of multi-storey buildings, with permits up 276.8% and 520 such buildings expected to be built. The number of multi-storey residential buildings also increased by 45.8%, with permits set to reach 4,832 in the first half of 2024, up from 3,314 in the same period of 2023. The number of private homes planned for construction increased by 15.9% to 1,685 buildings. The number of semi-detached houses increased by 56.5% to 579.
The total value of residential properties for which permits were issued in the first half of 2024 reached €1.5 billion, up 31.7% compared to €1.13 billion in the same period in 2023. The total area of residential projects also increased by 33.2% compared to last year.
The number of permits for the construction of non-residential buildings increased significantly, both in terms of value (by 128.9%) and area (by 127%). The number of permits issued for non-residential properties increased by 52.9%. The growth was particularly noticeable in June 2024, when the number of permits issued increased by 150% to 1,528. This is due to the fact that the transfer of powers to issue permits from municipal authorities and district administrations to new regional local governments, which comes into force on July 1, accelerated the application processing process.
