At today’s Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace, issues concerning housing policy and higher education will be discussed.
The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, noted that one of the key topics is the discussion of housing policy, which is considered one of the biggest challenges, especially for young people. He reminded that in October, Cyprus’s first comprehensive housing strategy was presented, and its implementation has already begun.
Today, the plan is to approve specific criteria for programs implemented by the Central Agency for Equal Distribution of Burdens, which will allow more citizens to access preferential financing for housing, professional activities, education, energy-efficient home renovations, and the subsidization of mortgage and professional loans.
The President also emphasized that a €108 million loan agreement will be signed with the European Investment Bank to finance the construction of student dormitories for the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) in Limassol and Paphos.
In addition, the meeting will discuss changes to the visa issuance procedure for foreign students from third countries. New criteria have been introduced, which will be in effect for one year to assess their effectiveness. The aim is to support local colleges while implementing strict measures to prevent any impact on the migration situation in the country, which is already under successful control.
There will also be discussions on changes to the higher education strategy, which will be officially announced in September and developed in collaboration with the Ministries of Education, Interior, Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Finance.
