How to renew electricity bills in Cyprus

Transferring electricity bills to your name is an essential step when purchasing property or signing a lease agreement in Cyprus. This ensures correct billing and may be required for migration procedures or opening a bank account. This article outlines the main steps and application options, including the possibility of applying online, as well as information on service fees.

Documents and Preparation

To successfully transfer electricity bills to your name, you will need the following documents:

Passport or residence permit.
Lease contract, sales agreement, or property title deed.
Contact information: phone number and email address.

These documents are necessary to confirm your identity and your right to use the property.

Application Process

In-Person Application

To transfer bills, you can personally visit one of the offices of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC). The staff at the office will help you fill out all the necessary forms. The transfer process is usually completed in one visit, after which you will receive a receipt for the payment of a refundable deposit.

Online Application

You can also apply online. To do this, send scanned copies of all required documents to the email address of the appropriate EAC customer service center. After the documents are verified, you will receive a supply contract via email, which you will need to sign and return.

Deposits and Fees

When transferring the bills, you are required to make a deposit, the amount of which depends on your citizenship and property ownership status:

€75 for Cypriot citizens, European Union citizens, and third-country nationals who are property owners.
€200 for Cypriot citizens and EU citizens who are not property owners.
€350 for third-country nationals who are not property owners.

In addition, there is a fee of €15 + VAT for transferring the account, which covers the administrative costs of processing the application.

Data Update Timelines

After the transfer procedure is completed, the data in the EAC system is updated within two working days, allowing the new owner or tenant to receive bills in their name within a few days.
