According to the Cypriot Statistical Service (Cystat), the total number of permanent government employees decreased by 679 people, or 2.5 percent, from 26,629 to 25,950 people.

In addition, temporary staff increased by 882 (4.9 percent) to a total of 18,980, up from 18,098 in June 2021.

The total number of civil servants in June increased by 265 people, which is 0.5% more than last year, and reached 53,474 people.

Civil service staff increased by 0.8% and education staff increased by 2% compared to June 2021.

Conversely, the number of security forces decreased by 1.7 per cent.

At the same time, there is a reduction in full-time employees in all three categories, with the sharpest reduction in civil servants, who decreased by 3.3%.

In terms of temporary staff, there was an increase of 7.3 per cent in the civil service, 8.5 per cent in the education system and 1 per cent in the security forces.

Compared to June 2021, there was an increase of 0.7 percent in the number of hourly employees.

The income of the National Rates Authority in the first quarter of 2022 amounted to 221 million euros, which is 27% more than last year and also 34% more than in the first quarter of 2020.

The total number of licensed bookmakers in Cyprus has reached 490, of which 166 are in Nicosia, 149 in Limassol, 87 in Larnaca, 52 in Paphos and 36 in the Famagusta area.

Ioanna Fiaccou, President of the National Rates Authority, expressed her satisfaction with the work of the body, saying that the figures show that the sector has potential for additional growth.

“It appears that the betting sector has fully recovered from the effects of the pandemic,” Fiakkou said.

Fiakkou explained that the efforts of the authorities are focused on the sustainable development of the sector by strengthening the tools and practices of supervision, as well as introducing new technologies and tools.

“Our unwavering goal remains to protect players, vulnerable groups and society as a whole from the harmful effects of gambling,” she concluded.

The Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) ended Tuesday, July 12, with losses.

The overall Cypriot stock market index stood at 66.54 points at 12:30 pm during the day, reflecting a 0.6% drop from the previous trading day.

The FTSE/CySE 20 Index stood at 39.80, down 0.62%.

The total value of transactions amounted to 1051 euros.

As for the sub-indices, the main index and the investment companies index decreased by 1% and 4.33%, respectively. The alternative and hotel indexes remained stable.

Demetra (-4.64%) and Bank of Cyprus (-0.41%) aroused the greatest investment interest.
