Premier of Luxembourg to pay Cyprus an official visit

Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel will pay an official visit to Cyprus. The agenda of the talks included Ukraine, energy, the migration crisis and the Cyprus issue.

Anastasiades’ spokesman Andreas Joseph said in a written statement that the two men will discuss ways to end the aggression in Ukraine and issues related to the EU’s energy security, as well as the migration crisis and ways to strengthen cooperation between small EUs. Member States.

Joseph said that Cyprus and Luxembourg have excellent relations, and during the meeting, President Anastasiadis and Bettel will consider ways to further expand bilateral cooperation.

The President of Cyprus will brief the Prime Minister of Luxembourg on the peace talks in Cyprus and efforts to restart them, as well as on the confidence-building measures he has proposed to this end. President Anastasiades is expected to stress the need for the EU to play a greater role in the peace talks, as well as the need for Turkey to show a constructive stance and stop violating Cyprus’ sovereign rights.

Cyprus was divided after the Turkish invasion in 1974. The next round of peace talks under the auspices of the UN was held in the summer of 2017 in the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana and ended to no avail.
