Building permits up by 2.8% in first quarter of 2022

According to data released by the Statistical Office on Friday, 1,951 building permits were issued between January and March 2022 compared to 1,897 in the corresponding period of the previous year, up 2.8%. The total cost of these permits increased by 13.8% and the total area by 3.7%. The number of housing units increased by 4.4%.

According to official figures, the number of building permits issued by the city and district administrations as of March 2022 was 642.

Of these, 444 – for residential buildings, 97 – for non-residential buildings, 39 – for civil engineering, 40 of them – for the division of land, and 22 – for road construction.

The total cost of these permits reached 209.7 million euros, and the total area – 176.7 thousand square meters.

These building permits provide for the construction of 962 residential units, of which 282 are single-family houses, 92 are semi-detached houses. Another 533 are multi-family buildings and another 55 are residential/commercial multi-family buildings.

According to CyStat, building permits are a leading indicator of future activity in the construction sector.
