Building permits issued in Cyprus in September marked another annual cut as the construction sector suffered from spikes in construction costs amid uncertainty caused by the war in Ukraine.
According to data published by the Cyprus Statistical Service ( Cystat ), the number of building permits issued by municipal authorities and district administrations in September 2022 has decreased to 670 compared to 761 issued in September last year.
The total value of these permits reached 226.9 million euros, and the total area – 202.8 thousand square meters, Cystat said , noting that these building permits provide for the construction of 760 housing units.
Building permits issued between January and September 2022 were 5,701 compared to 6,008 in the corresponding period last year, representing a decrease of 5.1%.
The total cost of these permits decreased by 1.0%, while the total area decreased by another 7.2%, Cystat said , adding that the number of registered housing units decreased by 4.9% year on year.
