Tourism in Cyprus

Travelers love Cyprus for its mild climate, warm and clear sea, long tourist season, high level of service, and delicious local cuisine. We invite you to embark on a journey to this island to experience all its diversity and relax on the picturesque shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

The Best Time to Visit Cyprus

The beach season on the island lasts most of the year, from May to October. The best time to visit Cyprus is in spring or autumn when the heat and humidity are not as intense, and the sea is still warm and comfortable for swimming. In late spring, Cyprus blooms with vibrant colors, making the landscapes especially picturesque. During the summer months, particularly in August, the heat in Cyprus can be overwhelming, with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius. During this time, the coastal and urban areas are extremely hot, but the mountains offer a more pleasant climate with cool breezes and shade.

Relaxing on Cyprus Beaches

Most people visit Cyprus to soak up the sun on its beautiful coastline. The island’s beaches are comfortable and very scenic. They are covered with soft golden or white sand, sometimes interspersed with pebbles. Many beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag, indicating they are ecologically safe. With gentle slopes into the water and calm seas, Cyprus beaches are very family-friendly and perfect for children.

All beach areas are municipal and therefore free to use. There are plenty of amenities for tourists, including rental of sunbeds and umbrellas, beachfront cafes, and changing facilities. Additionally, there are many water activities (such as banana boat rides and inflatable tubes) and excursions available.

Excursions in Cyprus

One of Cyprus’ great advantages is that beach vacations can be combined with cultural experiences, as the resorts are surrounded by numerous historical and natural attractions. These include ancient ruins, old monasteries, museums, religious sites, and unique natural formations.

You should definitely visit the Ayia Napa Monastery and its Sea Museum “Thalassa,” the ancient city of Amathus and the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates near Limassol, and the Baths of Aphrodite in Paphos. Also worth visiting is the ancient Kykkos Monastery in the Troodos Mountains.

There are particularly many attractions in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia. Enjoy the magnificent Old Town, which is surrounded by a fortress wall, and delve into the past at the Archaeological Museum, which deserves at least half a day. Be sure to also visit the Archbishop’s Palace, which, though built relatively recently, is beautifully styled after Renaissance architecture.

You may also be intrigued by the ghost town of Varosha. No one lives there anymore, and only decaying buildings remain, holding the spirit of the last century. There are no excursions into the town itself, but you can see it through a telescope at the viewpoint near the village of Deryneia, about 10 km from Ayia Napa.

For those interested in learning more about the famous Cypriot wine and tasting its best varieties, an excursion through the wine-producing regions of Cyprus is a must. The island is home to many small-scale family wine producers who make wine from local grapes.

For Active Leisure and Entertainment Enthusiasts

For those who don’t like to sit still, Cyprus offers hiking opportunities along the Camel Trail in the Troodos Mountains or a sea trip to Lara Bay, where a turtle hatchery helps protect the endangered loggerhead turtles.

The island also provides excellent conditions for water sports like surfing and waterskiing. There are fantastic yacht clubs and intriguing diving spots where you can explore the remains of sunken ships. Fishing enthusiasts will find plenty to do in Cyprus as well. Additionally, the island offers great skiing slopes for those who enjoy winter sports.

Who Is Cyprus Suitable For?

Cyprus offers a type of vacation for just about everyone. The beaches are comfortable, with many activities available, and the gentle slopes into the water make it ideal for family vacations. For young and energetic travelers, there is diving, surfing, hiking, wine tours, and skiing in the Troodos Mountains in January and February. For history buffs, Cyprus offers fascinating tours of the island’s attractions, including ancient cities, museums, and monasteries. Older tourists and those who prefer a more relaxed vacation will appreciate the local restaurants, coastal relaxation spots, and the incredibly picturesque scenery that you can enjoy endlessly.
