“In the municipality of Dromolaxia-Meneo in the province of Larnaca , projects worth millions of euros have been and are being implemented,” the mayor of Dromolaxia-Meneo told KYPE cypros Andronikos , adding that among them are the Municipal Library and the Multipurpose Center. He specified that “among the completed projects is the reconstruction of the central core of Dromolaxia , the movement of which was interrupted for several months due to work that is now proceeding at a normal pace.”
According to him, the redevelopment included the creation of a square and paving, the deepening of all communications and the installation of urban equipment – a project that, together with a parking area, cost about 1.2 million euros. At this time, he continued, “the renovation, expansion and energy upgrade project of the municipal building is in its final stages.” Recently, according to him, “contracts were signed to create a parking space for 30-35 cars, despite the city hall, and in September work will begin on its construction to serve the population.”
According to Mr. Andronikou , “Tenders have also been announced for the creation of the Municipal Library, which will serve both our municipality and the one that will arise from the merger in June 2024.” The library will be housed in the modern building of the former SPE Dromolaxia , which has since become the property of the municipality. The mayor said that “there will be books in the building, but it will also function as an electronic library with places for children, teenagers and adults.” At the same time, there will be places for lectures, book presentations, exhibitions, seminars and other events, and work on the project should begin in October.”
“Another planned project is the Multipurpose Center in Meneu , tenders for which have already been announced. Its cost is about two million euros. The center will serve as an alternative form of healthy employment for young people and not only, since the organized groups of the municipality will be able to use it for their various activities, since it has several premises.” There is also a hall with a capacity of about 250 people for lectures, seminars and other events. The project is funded by European funds and in particular by the European Thalia Program ,” said Mr. Andronikou , expressing his satisfaction with the success of this funding, as, as he explained, “two million euros is an extremely large fund for a municipality. Dromolaxia – Meneo “.
“At the same time, several other small projects are being implemented, such as the creation of a park with many toys and games for children in a new residential area located behind the old Dromolaxia cemetery . We believe that the creation of this particular park will serve the young families and their children living in the area, offering them relaxation and play.” He also noted that “contracts have been signed for the creation of a Memorial to the Fallen of the Dromolaxia community in the vicinity of the old church of Timi Prodromos , and the work will begin soon.” Restoration work of the old church of Timi Prodromos is also ongoing and we have already spoken with the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafiadis , about including the church in the Antiquities Department in order to restore its original appearance, since it is a very old church with a magnificent bell tower and other elements.”
According to the mayor, “at the same time, work continues on the restoration of the small church of St. Andronicus and Athanasia in Meneo , while the municipality contributes to the improvement of the surrounding areas.”
“All these works will highlight both the specific church and the old church of Timi Prodromos will make them more beautiful and visitable as we restore them to their original appearance and they will be the jewel of the municipality of Dromolaxia – Meneo ,” he concluded.
