The old Municipal Market in Nicosia takes on a new breath and a completely different face. Restoration and expansion work is proceeding at an intensive pace.
Work has recently begun on a seismic upgrade, as well as work on new additions to the existing Municipal Market Square in the old town hall.

Center of Excellence
The Municipal Market of the Old Town Hall is being renovated to accommodate the functions of the CYENS Center of Excellence for Research and Innovation.
The Municipality of Nicosia has begun the maintenance and restoration of the Municipal Market building of the old City Hall in the city center within the city walls next to the green line to serve as a pole for the development and promotion of entrepreneurship. and industry of research and innovative technologies in Cyprus.
The building will host the CYENS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (formerly RISE) and is part of the priorities of the Nicosia Municipality’s Integrated Sustainable Urban Development strategy to promote research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
In addition to the labs and application demonstration countries, the Agora building will host shared work areas, a workshop area, a multimedia studio, a production lab, an electronic prototype area, and more.
On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, a contract was signed between the Mayor of Nicosia Konstantinos Giorkatsis and the Director of Lois Builders Limited for the project “Business Innovation Center – Creative Enterprise District – Rehabilitation and expansion of the old municipal market”. Nicholas Lois.
The restoration work was carried out by Lois Builders Limited at a cost of EUR 4,927,000 plus VAT.
