The new government’s priorities for the real property sector

The real estate sector has always been one of the most important in the Cypriot economy. Despite successive international crises, Cyprus remains an attractive destination for foreign investors, which contributes greatly to the sustainability of the sector as there are no property taxes in Cyprus and property prices are very attractive.

The numbers speak for themselves. The value of real estate sold in 2022 is approaching €6 billion. In particular, in 2022, 22,129 transactions were recorded in Cyprus for a total of €5.85 billion. The fourth quarter of 2022 was the best of the year, as real estate sales amounted to €1.7bn across 5,883 deals.

2023 finds the country with a new government structure. The priorities of the new government will be presented by the new Minister Konstantinos Ioannou at the 17th Conference and Exhibition on Land Management, Planning and Construction. He will also talk about actions that will lead to the renewal and modernization of the sector and its working methods.

Political career and business life

Konstantinos Ioannou was born on March 24, 1969 and is a graduate of the Nicosia English School. He studied business administration at the UMIST Manchester School of Management in the United Kingdom. He went on to study in the United States on an honorary Fulbright Scholarship at Cornell University, where he received a master’s degree in management.

Since 1997 he has been a founder, consultant and member of the Board of Directors of IMH, an organization that provides knowledge and information to the leaders of the Cypriot market.

He was the CEO and member of the Board of Directors of Real Time Hospitality Intelligence , USA (1996-2001). In 2006 he founded CC Coffee. company Ltd , which owns the rights to use Gloria Jean’s Coffees International in Cyprus and was part of the Retail Advisory Group food Group (Australia), representing the European region.

He served on the boards of directors of several companies, was the Minister of Health from March 1, 2018 to July 1, 2021.

The University of Nicosia announced Konstantinos Ioannou as an Honorary Doctorate of the School of Medicine in 2022 in recognition of his vision, efforts and determination to bring the NHS to life while he was Minister of Health.
