Larnaca Pier restoration work has been completed, which includes static upgrades, maintenance of lighting poles, replacement of various fixtures on the pier, installation of a lighting system under the pier, and upgrades to an existing historic crane.
In a statement from Kition Ocean Holdings Ltd said that during Transport, Communications and Works Minister Alexis Vafeadis’ visit to Larnaca yesterday, “the reconstruction work of the city’s surviving wooden historic pier was inspected and the work, as well as planning for the first phase of the project, was discussed.” It adds that “it is established that, despite initial delays, the first part of the restoration and maintenance work on the eastern side has been completed, as well as maintenance of the existing crane and two lighthouses located on the embankment.”
According to the announcement, “Following initial concerns raised by large boat owners (day cruise operators), maintenance and upgrades to the dock have been split into three phases. The first phase, which has already been completed, includes the static upgrade portion, lighting pole maintenance, replacement of various fixtures on the pier, installation of a lighting system under the pier, and upgrades to an existing historic crane.”
At the same time, “two historic lighthouses were modernized, with the existing railings on Sites A and C being retained and restored, and the existing metal and wood seating being repaired.”
It is also reported that “at the same time, relevant work is being carried out on the second part of the embankment, including the restoration of the Nautilus House, which has been the hallmark of the residents of Larnaca for decades.”
The management company plans to “transform the Nautilus House into a museum of photography and history, where Cypriot visitors and tourists will be given the opportunity to get acquainted with the history of Cyprus, the history of Larnaca and the history of the city’s piers through cinema.”
Kition Ocean Holdings “considers the completion of the marina construction works to be of utmost importance as they represent the beginning of the comprehensive development of Larnaca Port and Marina .” “The preserved pier will be used to showcase our cultural heritage as it will become a tourist destination, reference point and event venue for the city and province of Larnaca .”
The company also plans to “set up sixteen stands that will be able to present to the public traditional dishes, food products, sweets, Cypriot products, handmade jewelry and other handicrafts from villages, municipalities and communities of Larnaca province and beyond . ” The 16 pavilions will be available for hire from early 2024, when it is estimated that work will be completed and the dock will be open to the public.
