Telecommunications company invests in sustainable development

13.08.2022

Telecommunications provider Epic announced this week that it is investing in green and sustainable development, the ultimate goal of which is to reduce the company’s environmental impact and help fight climate change.

“Envisioning a greener future with greater respect for the planet, Epic has incorporated into its strategy the concern for the environment through methods aimed at gradually reducing pollutant emissions,” the company said in a statement.

Within this framework, the company has begun implementing hybrid systems to power its mobile telephony base stations in order to reduce fuel consumption and promote renewable energy sources.

The hybrid system used by Epic combines renewable energy technology using photovoltaic systems with energy storage technology using a modern battery system.

These hybrid systems are able to intelligently manage the flow of power in the system to maximize the share of green energy consumed by the company’s mobile telephony base stations.

Today, with the company already using ten hybrid systems to power its mobile telephony base stations, the company’s reduction in fossil fuel use has accelerated by 70 percent.

Epic said that with a long-term goal to completely phase out the use of oil and replace it with green energy, it intends to invest in the implementation and use of 30 more hybrid systems over the next 6 months.

Epic CEO Thanos Chronopoulos stressed that green energy and sustainable practices are the foundation of growth for any modern and competitive company.

“Climate change is a global environmental issue that causes extreme weather events and threatens our health and our social and economic development every day. We must all step up our efforts together to meet this challenge and achieve a better and more sustainable future,” Chronopoulos said.

“The introduction of hybrid systems to power mobile telephony base stations is part of our business strategy to incorporate ESG criteria into our operations, our internal processes, and the services we offer,” he added.

Chronopoulos concluded by saying that “participating in efforts to secure a more sustainable future by integrating renewable energy into our lives is one of Epic’s top priorities.”
