In October, the Cyprus Ministry of Energy announced the resumption of a subsidy program for solar panels for private homes, expanding it to accept an additional 3,000 applications from residents across the country. Launched in March under the name “Photovoltaics for All,” the initiative has received a strong response, with over 6,000 applications submitted in the first four months and many installations already completed. The program aims to support the installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems, which help reduce electricity bills and save the environment.
To make the program more accessible, the Ministry of Energy has revised the subsidy conditions, made a number of improvements and increased accessibility for households with different income levels. Now, under the new A 3 category scheme, the annual electricity consumption limit of 6,000 kWh has been lifted. The subsidy amount for this segment has been reduced from €1,000 to €500, and the possible refundable amount has been increased from €4,000 to €4,500. An important change is that applications can be submitted even by those who have concluded a real estate purchase and sale agreement, but are not yet its official owner.
The grant program also offers support for other subsidy categories:
Category A 1: For the general population, a subsidy of €375 is allocated for each installed kilowatt (kW) of PV system capacity, but not more than €1,500. In mountainous areas, this amount is increased by 50%.
Category A 2: Vulnerable households can count on a subsidy of €1,250 per kW of capacity, up to a maximum of €6,250.
Category B 1: For roof insulation, the subsidy is 50% of the costs, but not more than €2,500 (€25 per m²), also with an additional 50% surcharge in mountainous areas.
Category B 2: Vulnerable households are provided with a subsidy of 75% of the insulation cost, up to a maximum of €3,750 (€37.50 per m²).
The program offers a unique opportunity for Cypriots to reduce their energy costs and contribute to a cleaner, greener future. For the convenience of participants, the costs can be paid in installments through their electricity bills, which is covered by the Renewable Energy Fund (RES) and the Energy Efficiency Fund.
