The completion of a major upgrade of Cyprus’ largest indoor sports facility, the Spyros Kyprianou Centre in Limassol, has become a major milestone in preparation for the country’s premier sporting event. Cyprus will host 15 matches of the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 finals from August 28 to September 4, 2025 , and the new level of infrastructure is designed to ensure that the tournament is held at the highest level.
Modern space for sports and events
On June 18, 2025, the renovated sports center was officially opened to media representatives and officials. Guests were given the opportunity to see the completely renovated premises: conference rooms, press area , changing rooms and a new playing parquet. This is the largest and most technologically advanced indoor facility in Cyprus, meeting all international standards.
Particular attention was paid to the multifunctionality of the complex. The center will be able to host not only sports competitions, but also conferences, exhibitions, cultural events, and also be used as a training base for national teams.
A symbol of change and investment in the future
Minister of Transport, Communications and Public Works Alexis Vafeadis noted that the reconstruction was not only a step in the development of sports, but also a contribution to improving the quality of the urban environment. He emphasized that the facility will serve future generations, and not just EuroBasket. The introduction of Park & Ride parking was also announced, which will help solve the problem of traffic in Limassol.
Project manager Lysandros Kyriakou and representatives of the Cyprus Basketball Federation said the facility is ready to host large-scale events and will become a “center of gravity” for the country’s basketball life. The stadium will host national team matches, 2027 World Cup qualifiers, the All Star Game, Euroleague tournaments and other international events.
Economic effect and further use
The President of the EuroBasket 2025 Cyprus Organising Committee, Mark Clerides, stressed the importance of using the complex after the championship: “We want this sports centre to become not only an arena for basketball, but also a space for other sports, cultural events and exhibitions. It is a strategic asset for the entire economy of the country.”
The Chairman of the Cyprus Basketball Federation, Andreas Mouzouridis, said that Cyprus is ready to host international competitions and can serve as an example for other European countries.
