Despite the economic and not only difficulties caused by the pandemic for two years now, and finally the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the municipality of Peyi still manages to implement a large-scale project.

The mayor of Peyia, Marinos Lambrou, indicated that construction work on the tennis court had already begun. With the completion of these works, he stressed, the sports infrastructure of the municipality is being completed, which includes the Municipal Stadium, an auxiliary football field, a basketball and volleyball field and a mini-football field.

According to Marinos Lambrou, the completion of the construction of sports infrastructure is followed by a major project to improve the central Michalakis Kyprianou Avenue in part of its first part. The completion time for the works is 18 months, and their completion is scheduled for December 25, 2023. The contract amount is 3.3 million euros plus VAT, the project is financed by the municipality of Peyi.

Marinos Lambrou also stressed that procedures have already begun for Peyia’s coastal footpath, the largest in Cyprus, which will be an urban project worth 2.5 million euros. According to him, the first phase of the project will be two kilometers long and will be part of a wider coastal promenade that starts from the marina in Potima and ends at the port of Agios Georgios in Peyia, with a total length of 14 km . miles along the coast. “The first one provides for the construction of an amphitheater, an outdoor gym, a basketball court, a pavilion and a playground. This is a very important project that modernizes the municipality of Peyi. Completion of the project is estimated in 18 months,” he stressed.
