Stefanos participated in talks. Pierides , Secretary General of the Federation of Building Contractors’ Associations ( Oseok ) and Head of Environment at the European Construction Industry Federation ( Fiec ).
During his visit to the Belgian capital, Pierides met with Cypriot MEPs Loukas Fourlas , Michalis Hatzipandelas and Kostas Mavridis . During the talks, he emphasized the pressure being placed on the construction industry by rapidly rising costs, as well as how this impacts the affordability of one-, two-, and three -bedroom residential properties.
In addition, Pierides discussed prospects for cooperation with Demetris Petrides , Attaché of the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the EU, ahead of Cyprus’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.
As Chairman of the FIEC Subcommittee on Environment, Pierides also took part in a meeting with the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jorgensen . The central themes were water supply issues and the construction industry’s role in Europe’s transition to a sustainable and environmentally friendly economy.
Cyprus’s active role in FIEC allows it to play a more significant role in shaping European policies that directly impact the future of the construction sector at both national and EU levels.
