FIBA EuroBasket 2025 European Basketball Championship has started in Limassol , with matches taking place at the Sports Complex «Spyros Kyprianou». The tournament became a significant event not only for the sporting life of Cyprus, but also for the international image of the country.
Large-scale reconstruction of the arena
Preparations for the tournament included a complete renovation of the sports complex. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Public Works of Cyprus, together with the Department of Public Works, implemented a modernization project, which included:
- improving the playing field,
- renovation of auxiliary facilities,
- installation of modern security systems and technical support.
The work was carried out in accordance with international FIBA standards, which allowed the arena to meet the high requirements for organizing competitions of this level.
The Cyprus Sports Organization (CSO) and other relevant structures took an active part in the preparation for EuroBasket 2025. Through joint efforts, the arena was fully functionally ready.
Importance for Cyprus
The project implementation became part of the strategic program for the development of sports infrastructure. The updated complex not only creates conditions for holding world-class tournaments, but also strengthens the reputation of Cyprus as a country capable of hosting major international events.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications stressed that it will continue to work in cooperation with the organizations responsible for holding the competitions, ensuring the comfort of spectators and the safe holding of all matches.
