Prospective development of the Kornos area : major projects worth €20 million

Kornos area is set to undergo a major transformation in the coming years, with the launch of two major projects worth over €20 million. Mayor of Lefkara Sophocles Sofokleous noted that these initiatives will be key steps towards modernizing the area and improving the quality of life of its residents.

€18 million sports centre

The largest project will be the sports centre, funded by the Cyprus Football Federation (KOP). This long-awaited facility, the planning of which began in July 2024, will be built in cooperation with the Larnaca Local Authority (EOA). Construction will begin in 2026 and be completed by 2028.

Sports center characteristics:

  • The main stadium has a capacity of 1,500 spectators and is designed to host matches of youth national teams.
  • Three training fields and a dormitory for athletes.
  • Artificial turf field for children’s tournaments.
  • Administrative premises that will become the new headquarters of KOP.

The official presentation of the project is scheduled for June 19.

€2 million multifunctional complex

The second project is a multifunctional building, the construction of which has already begun. It includes:

  • event hall;
  • conference halls.

The building will be completed within three years and will be the first such facility in the area that will be able to host educational and community events.

Additional initiatives

  1. Establishment of a Citizens Service Centre. An agreement to open the centre was reached with the Ministry of Transport and the Department of Postal Services (Cyprus Post).
  2. New parks. Two public parks are already under construction in the area.
  3. Museum of Traditional Crafts. The historic building, formerly used for the production of red clay, is planned to be transformed into an interactive museum and workshop. This will preserve the cultural heritage of the region and attract tourists and students.

The Kornos Municipality, together with the Larnaca authorities , is actively promoting the project of creating a “Technical School” in the area. This project was announced by President Nikos Christodoulides and is awaiting confirmation in the coming days.

The projects planned for the Kornos area will significantly improve living standards, attract investment and preserve the traditional heritage of the region. These initiatives reflect the authorities’ commitment to integrated development that combines sports, culture and education.
