According to a report published this week by the Statistical Office of Cyprus (Cystat), the number of trips abroad made by residents of Cyprus in September 2022 is almost twice as much as last year.
According to the service, overseas travel in September 2022 was 122,450, up from 66,452 in September 2021, an increase of 84.3% year on year.
The main countries from which Cypriots returned in September 2022 were Greece with 37.1%, the UK with 9.2% and Italy with 5.2%.
The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy will host the first European Team Connecting Conference on Friday, the first event of its kind in Cyprus, bringing together Centers of Excellence (CoE) from across Europe.
The conference, which will be held at the Mediterranean Beach Hotel in Limassol, will bring together researchers from 25 centers funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation (R&D) Programme’s Joining Forces for Excellence. Six of these participating centers are based in Cyprus. In addition, the event will bring together representatives of the European Commission, as well as authorities, organizations and professionals from the local research and development ecosystem.
According to the organizers of the event, the discussion will focus on the main challenges faced by the Centers of Excellence in terms of their sustainability and further development, as well as the importance of using research results to put Europe back on the right track in terms of growth and development . while effectively addressing global challenges such as climate change and accelerating the transition to green and digital technologies.
“The conference aims to be a platform for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices among all participants,” the organizers said in a statement. “It also seeks to lay the foundations for synergies and constructive cooperation at the bilateral or even multilateral level, for the benefit of the centers themselves, as well as the global economy and society,” the statement said.
PwC Cyprus on Tuesday announced that it has awarded four accountancy trainees and two other employees for achieving significant results in the international examinations of the Association of Chartered Certified Public Accountants (ACCA) and other academic institutions in June 2022.
The company said it held two special ceremonies on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the organization’s offices. The first trainee awards ceremony was attended by the organization’s CEO, Philippos Soseilos, and HR director, Anna Loizou.
Accounting trainees Alisa Simpson, Amin Fataliyev and Kirill Bogdanov were awarded for their successful completion of the ACCA exams, while Vasiliki Petrutu was awarded for academic achievement.
Alice Simpson won first place in Cyprus in the Advanced Taxation exam.
“This is the seventh time Simpson has ranked first nationally in the ACCA exam,” the company said in a statement. In addition, Amin Fataliyev won first place in Cyprus in the Taxation exam, and Kirill Bogdanov won first place in Cyprus in the Performance Management exam.
Vasiliki Petroutsu received the “Best Academic Achievement” award for her excellent work in her MSc in Human Resource Management in the 2022 academic year at the University of Cyprus.
Meanwhile, the second ceremony took place in the presence of PwC Cyprus CEO Philippos Soseilos, Head of Human Resources Anna Loizou, and Spyros Evangelou, Partner and Head of SA Evangelou & CO LLC Advocates, a law firm and member of PwC’s international network.
The three executives congratulated Natalie Vassiliou Mustaka on receiving the highest rating in the world in 2021 in the “STEP Advanced Certificate in Trusts: Law and Practice” and receiving the STEP Worldwide Excellence Award.

The overall Cypriot stock market index stood at 74.34 points at 13:57 during the day, reflecting a 0.51% drop from the previous trading day.
The FTSE/CySE 20 Index stood at 48.19 points, down 0.55%.
The total transaction value was 85,064 euros.
As for the sub-indices, the main, alternative and hotel indexes decreased by 0.45%, 0.49% and 0.49% respectively, while the index of investment companies rose by 0.48%.
