On 10 September 2024, contracts were signed for the construction of the project “Reconstruction of the inner perimeter of the fortress wall – Phase A “, the work on which will begin in January 2025 and will last 20 months. The total cost of the project will be 8,155,831.50 euros excluding VAT.
According to the Nicosia Municipality, the project aims to improve the urban environment and develop entrepreneurship, creating favorable conditions for commercial and other economic activities. It is also planned to improve the quality of life by updating the architectural appearance and improving the services provided.
The project includes the comprehensive reconstruction of Constantine Palaiologos Avenue, which runs along the Venetian walls of the old city of Nicosia. The eastern boundary of the project site is Archbishop Makarios II Square next to the Podokatara parking lot, and the western boundary is Liberty Square. The works will also include the restoration of the facades of private buildings located along the northern side of the avenue.
The project is part of the Integrated Development Strategy for the Nicosia Urban Area 2021-2030 and is being implemented within the framework of the Political Cohesion Programme “THALEIA 2021-2027” with the support of the European Union.
The contracts were signed by the Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, and Despina Chrysochou on behalf of the contractor CYFIELD CONSTRUCTIONS LTD.
