An important decision has been made in Limassol to modernize and expand the archaeological museum. The project involves the construction of a new building on the territory of a city park and the creation of a city square on the site of an existing parking lot. The initiative has received the support of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, as well as the Ministry of Culture.
At a meeting held on April 9 in the presence of Transport Minister Alexios Vafiadis and Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou , it was decided to abandon the previous plan to expand the museum on the premises of the PASYDY building. This option was deemed impractical due to the lengthy bureaucratic procedures. Instead, the idea of the Limassol Municipality to expand the museum within the city park was supported.
The project provides for:
- construction of a new building connected to the existing museum by an overpass across Anastasi Street Sioukri ;
- development of a modern city square on the site of a municipal parking lot Green Service .
Mayor of Limassol Yannis Armeutis noted that the meeting was the first step towards the implementation of the project, the decision on which will be made by the President of the Republic. “We discussed the main stages of the project preparation and received positive feedback,” the mayor emphasized.
In addition to the museum’s issues, the meeting discussed current traffic issues in Limassol. The municipality proposed:
- develop a project for a northern bypass route;
- organize additional exits onto the highway;
- build two new bridges approved by the city council;
- create new parking areas, including a site in the EVKAF area.
