On 29 September 2025, representatives of the European Investment Bank (EIB) visited the construction site of the new Berengaria student residence , being developed by the Cyprus University of Technology ( TEPAK) in the Polemidia area of Limassol.
The EIB delegation included Vice Presidents Kyriakos Kakouris and Ioannis Tsakiris , as well as Nikos Giambidis , a member of the investment team in Greece and Cyprus. Representatives of TEPAK’s management and other officials also attended the meeting.
During the visit, an extensive discussion was held on the construction progress, as well as other initiatives financed by the European Investment Bank. EIB representatives expressed high satisfaction with the quality of construction work , the speed of implementation, and the overall social significance of the project, emphasizing that it will contribute to increasing access to higher education and creating a comfortable environment for students .
In addition, prospects for further investment cooperation between the bank and the university were discussed.
Project characteristics
Beregaria student residence will be one of the largest facilities of its kind in Cyprus . It will include:
- 500 fully furnished student rooms;
- modern common areas;
- restaurant ;
- conference hall;
- recreation areas, a gym and work offices;
- student reception and support center.
Student rooms will be commissioned, and the second phase, which will be completed in 2027, will include the commissioning of the remaining student rooms.
The project’s significance for education and urban development
Berengaria complex is more than just a student dormitory; it’s an integrated part of TEPAK’s strategy to improve the educational environment and urban infrastructure. The project addresses several objectives:
- Reduces rental costs for students.
- Increases the attractiveness of the Polemidia area as an educational and social center.
- Promotes the development of student life, science and culture.
The European Investment Bank, which is supporting the project, sees it as an example of the effective use of investment in social and educational infrastructure , which brings long-term benefits to both students and the region’s economy as a whole.
