The Cyprus Ministry of Transport has signed a cloud hosting contract for its national open transport data platform, which will monitor and manage traffic.
According to a ministry press release, a contract was signed last Friday between the Department of Public Works and Cablenet Communication Systems Ltd for 300,000 euros for a period of 60 months.
The contract provides for the cloud hosting of the Traffic Monitoring and Management Platform and the development of a communication network connecting 120 traffic meters (DTV), 26 CCTV cameras and four electronic traffic signs, as well as new equipment such as 40 additional electronic traffic signs, 170 surveillance cameras and 18 DTV meters to be funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund (RRF).
“The installation and interconnection of the above systems will provide full coverage and digitization of the main urban and rural road network of Cyprus, offering a complete traffic monitoring and management platform,” the ministry said in a statement.
The platform, the ministry added, will allow competent stakeholders to better manage transport networks, respond quickly to incidents, and facilitate the provision of information to drivers and individuals for the development of navigation applications, as well as the provision of data to universities.
