According to a presentation of the Interior Ministry’s work report for the first year of Christodoulides’s government and the program for 2024. The revision of plans is associated with the adoption of the criterion for inclusion of settlements with low temperatures in the allowances.
In the second half of the year, the full implementation of the “ Hippodamus ” information system of the Department of Urban Planning and Housing is expected, as well as the creation of an interconnection of related services for the electronic submission of opinions through the system in question. Urban planning projects in municipalities and communities are also being promoted, as is a “urban amnesty” concession plan.
The minister responsible for the “urban amnesty” plan noted that there are concerns about whether it will be used, stressing that the goal is to do so with the right criteria. “The goal is to free buyers from violations made by land surveyors or the owners themselves. These buyers, although they paid for the purchase of the property, cannot use it because they cannot obtain a certificate of ownership. The same applies to buildings that are jointly owned, such as apartment buildings or apartment complexes,” he said.
According to Constantinos Ioannou, the main goal is to establish prices, a price list for each type of violation.
Also, the ministry’s projects related to urban modernization include:
- Local plan of Paralimni , Ayia Napa and Derynea,
- Local Plan ,
- Local plan of Golden Bay,
- Local plan of Peyia.
- Local plan of the area south of Nicosia.
- Review of urban policy approval zones.
In the second half of 2024, there will be a re-evaluation and gradual adjustment of the Turkish Cypriot commercial property lease terms.
Regarding Turkish Cypriot commercial properties, the legislative amendment aims to ensure transparency in access to these properties. Provisions are being introduced such as holding auctions depending on the area where they are located.
Projects planned for this year by MPs include adding new electronic services to the SDO portal, promoting new rules for the disposal of public land, a regulatory framework for jointly owned buildings, and electronic property verification to provide information to interested buyers about real estate.
