The Deputy Ministry of Shipping on Monday announced that Minister Vassilios Demetriades is currently on an official visit to Japan.
During his stay in the country, the minister will hold a series of meetings with government officials, representatives of shipowners’ trade unions, as well as leaders of the shipping and financial sectors.
According to a press release from the Deputy Ministry, the visit took place as part of the promotion of Cyprus as a maritime center.
The ultimate goal of the strategy is to attract international shipping companies to Cyprus as well as register ships from this particular market.
In addition, he is expected to visit a number of companies to present the benefits of the Cypriot shipping sector.
The Deputy Minister will also host a number of other meetings to present current developments and issues in global shipping.
The Cypriot minister will also take part in the christening ceremony for a newly built cargo ship owned by Safe Bulkers, a company that provides seaborne bulk cargo transportation services.
The ship was built by a Japanese shipyard in accordance with the latest environmental standards and will sail under the Cypriot flag.
