Astromerity–Evrychou Highway

The application process for the construction of the Astromeritis-Evrychos interurban highway was completed in May, and the next stage was the evaluation of applications and the award of the Project. The cost of the project is estimated at 89.25 million euros including VAT.

The construction of the interurban highway Astromeritis-Evricho is the implementation of another decree of the President of the Republic, which has embarked on a path of implementation, satisfying the fair demand of local communities for decades.

With the implementation of the Project, a new impetus will be given to the development of the region and support for the inhabitants of the mountainous areas, reducing the pace of urbanization and significantly improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Troodos region. Recognizing the importance of the implementation of the Project as a top priority, the Government has included it in the National Strategic Plan for Mountain Communities.

In addition to the benefits it will bring to the development and revitalization of communities in the area, the completion of the Intercity Highway is expected to address various road safety concerns. The construction of a safe road infrastructure will serve the residents of the Soleas complex in their access to and from Nicosia, while at the same time making it easier for Cypriot citizens who travel from Nicosia to the wider Troodos area.

Recall that the project is located in the Nicosia region and concerns the construction of a four-lane intercity highway with a length of about 11 kilometers. The motorway will start at the point of the existing Astromeritis – Evrychou road, south of the community of Astromeritis after the intersection with the community of Byzakia, and end at the intersection of the existing Astromeritis – Evrychou road with the road to Kykkos, in Atsa district. region.

This is a first-class project that includes a rough interchange in the Kutraf area, as well as two overpasses and two underpasses connecting the areas on both sides and the existing road. It also includes a long valley bridge, about 700 m long, over the river Elia (Vizakia). At the beginning of the Project, a uniform contribution is foreseen, which in the future will be replaced by an uneven one, in the context of the construction of the Dénia – Astromeritis section. At the end of the project, at the intersection in the direction of Kalopanagioti – Kikko, a terminal level roundabout is planned.

The project includes works related to earthworks, rainwater drainage, construction of technical structures (dollar bridges, overpasses and underpasses, retaining walls, etc.), engineering networks, paving, road markings and signaling, protective parapets etc. Also included are measures to reduce the impact on the environment in accordance with the terms of the Environmental Protection Agency.

It is clarified that the existing road Astromeritis – Evrychou will remain in operation even after the construction of a new route.

Highway Paphos-Poleos Chrysochous

On July 1, construction work began on the Paphos – Poleos Chrysochous motorway, a project that has been a longstanding requirement of the region’s local authorities for decades.

The project concerns the study and construction (design and construction) of a two-lane road initially from Agia Marinuda to Stroumbi, with a length of 15.5 km and a cost of EUR 86,845,010.00 (including VAT). In the future, the road will be upgraded to four lanes. The route starts from the Limassol-Paphos highway past Agia Marinouda and ends on the existing road after Stroumbi.

The first phase includes the construction of a non-uniform interchange to connect to the Limassol-Paphos highway, a roundabout at Tsada and one at the endpoint after Stroumbi. The construction of two drilling tunnels with a length of 720 meters is also envisaged . and 290 m each, five valley bridges with a total length of 1500 m, two overpasses and nine underpasses. Finally, due to the rise of the road, additional traffic lanes will be built over a large distance (about 12 km).

The motorway will have a total length of 31 kilometers and will be completed in two phases.

It is noted that a preliminary study is being carried out for the second stage, and the competent departments are gradually proceeding to the remaining stages of the process.

Nicosia ring road

Until the end of 2023, drivers will have to be patient, as the first phase of a major Nicosia perimeter motorway project, which is expected to help alleviate the traffic problem and smoother traffic at the entrance to the city, is estimated to be delivered for a certain period .

Cyfield carried out construction work on a 7.5 km four-lane highway. It will also include about 10 kilometers of secondary roads that will be connected to the existing network, as well as two intersections in the industrial area of Idalio with the motorway, one intersection in the industrial area of Tseri with the Olympic shooting range and a roundabout to Strovolos-Tseriou Avenue.

The first stage of the perimeter motorway concerns the section from the intersection with the Nicosia-Limassol highway through the industrial area of Idali to the intersection with Strovolou/Tseriou Avenue through the industrial area of Lakatamia.

Limassol – Saitta highway

Work on the Limassol-Saitta highway, which began in September 2020, is in full swing. According to the schedule, the completion of the first phase (Phase A 1 ) of the project is expected in March 2023. Construction was carried out by Cyfield. The cost of Phase A1 is €31.09 million inclusive of VAT, and the total cost is estimated at €198 million inclusive of VAT. The new highway will be four-lane with a central dividing island. Its total length will be 22.5 kilometers, and the development of this major project is progressing in three phases.

Phase A1 concerns the Polemidia – Palodiia section, approximately 3.6 km long from the sports center of Spyros Kyprianou (Palace of Sports) to the access to the Palodiia community and is a continuation of Yiannos Kranidiotis Avenue.

The project includes a seven-kilometer secondary road network, four roundabouts, a pedestrian crossing, an underpass and retaining walls .

Phase A2 concerns the Palodiya-Alassa region, with a total length of 8 km, with an estimated cost of 77.35 million euros, including VAT.

Phase B concerns the 10.8 km Alassa-Saittas section where a preliminary final study has been submitted and a final study report is expected around the end of 2022. The schedule for the start of Phase B will be approved once Phase A2 is promoted, and its cost is estimated at €89.25 million including VAT.
