Major development projects are on the way, which will change the image of Nicosia. A more recent event is the signing of an agreement to build the Cyprus Museum.

At the same time, the redevelopment of the old GSP area, the commercial triangle of Makarios-Stasikratos-Evagoros , the Nicosia perimeter highway and other projects are expected to significantly improve the appearance of the capital.

New Cyprus Museum

Signatures have been collected for the construction of the new Cyprus Museum, the largest project in the state budget at a cost of 144 million euros.

of 30,000 sq.m. (including basements) will be built on a 40,000 m2 site , on the site of an old general hospital, opposite the House of Representatives and in spite of the existing Cyprus Museum and Nicosia Municipal Theatre.

It will include permanent exhibition areas with a total area of 5,500 sq.m. which will house about 6,500 antiques, 1,000 m2 of periodical exhibition space, 2,000 m2 of conservation workshops, underground parking spaces, 5,000 m2 of antiquities storage, a restaurant, a cafeteria, a library, an auditorium, offices, an art shop, and extensive outdoor landscaping.

Landscaping work will also affect the square with a fountain.

The contract also includes restoration/maintenance of the listed building and demolition of other existing buildings.

The project was awarded to the consortium Yakovow – Syfield (M) Joint Venture for a contract value of EUR 143,924,216 including VAT.

Reconstruction of the old GSP

Intensive work is underway on the reconstruction and complete renovation of the historic stadium in Nicosia.

Cyfield consortium is the contractor for the radical reconstruction of the site of the old GSP Construction – JV Cyfield development . Construction work began in November 2021, the completion of the project is scheduled for November 2023.

The redevelopment of the old GSP site includes, among other things, the creation of a city park, green spaces and recreation areas, as well as the construction of an underground parking with a capacity of 554 cars .

There will be 33 parking spaces for the disabled, 28 parking spaces for people with limited mobility, and 12 electric vehicle charging sites designed for 108 electric vehicles will be built.

The new park will include, among other things, a cafe, a restaurant, a bookstore, an art gallery, an amphitheater, a plaza, a small waterfall and a water wall.

The project budget reaches 20 million euros.

Perimeter of Nicosia

Work is underway on the first phase of the Nicosia ring road, a project that is expected to significantly reduce traffic chaos at the entrance to the city.

Cyfield has embarked on a 7.5 km four-lane road project. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

In addition to four 7.5 km lanes, the project also includes about 10 km of secondary roads connecting the existing network, as well as two intersections in the industrial zone Idalio with motorway, one intersection in the industrial area Ceri with the Olympic shooting range.

The first stage, the cost of which is 60 million euros, concerns the section from the intersection with the Nicosia- Limassol highway through the industrial zone Idali to the intersection with Strovolou / Zeriou Avenue through the industrial area Lakatamia .

Alexandroupoleos Avenue in Strovolos

Alexandroupoleos Avenue in Strovolos is considered a development project that will improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the capital.

This is a high-priority road that will connect Strovolov Avenue with Archangels Avenue and parts of Bosphorus, Alexandroupoleos and Kanari streets.

The greatest benefit from the construction of the road will be the offloading of residential areas and roads in the vicinity of Strovolos and especially in the old center of Strovolos .

The cost of the project is 12 million euros.

Alleys of Hippocrates, Argyroupoleos and Zeriou

Last June, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announced an open tender for the improvement/construction of Ippokratous and Argyroupoleos avenues and parts of Tseriou and Strovolos avenues in Lakatameya and Strovolos .

The project aims to modernize the road infrastructure in the Lakatamia and Strovolos districts , as well as to improve the road network for the convenience of all its users. It will connect the existing Oikodomos roundabout (despite the new GSP) with the Lakatamias bypass . The main road connecting Tseri with Strovolos ( Tseri and Strovolos ).

The project includes the construction of a 3.25 m wide four-lane road, a 2.20 m wide central island, 2 m wide sidewalks on each side, a 1.10 m wide green lane on each side and a 3 m wide bike path (lot width 24, 5 m) with a total length of about 6200 m.

In addition, it includes the construction of three roundabouts, a bridge (training method of construction) across the Kalogeros River , stormwater systems, infrastructure for installing street lighting, utilities, landscaping and irrigation, as well as installing traffic lights and light- controlled pedestrian crossings.
