The Lovers’ Bridge (or Bridge of Love) is one of the most romantic and picturesque spots in Cyprus, located off the coast of Ayia Napa, in the Cape Greco area. It is a natural arch of white limestone, hanging over the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The unique combination of the color of the rocks, the turquoise water, and its perfect shape make this place a symbol of love and one of the most popular locations for photo shoots and wedding ceremonies on the island.

Geographical location and origin
Lovers’ Bridge is located in southeastern Cyprus, between Ayia Napa and Protaras, approximately two kilometers west of Cape Greco. It is part of a coastal area where limestone cliffs have been eroded by wind and waves for centuries, forming natural arches and grottoes.
The natural arch was formed by erosion: seawater gradually eroded the soft rock, creating a tunnel beneath the cliff, which eventually became an open space. Unlike artificial bridges, the arch is perfectly shaped, as if crafted by a sculptor. It is approximately 6 meters long and rises approximately 8 meters above sea level.
This part of the Cyprus coastline is distinguished by its exceptionally clear water—transparency reaches 25–30 meters, and the bottom is covered with white sand and small stones, which gives the water a turquoise hue.
Legends and symbols
The name “Lovers’ Bridge” stems from local legends. According to one, if a couple kisses on the bridge at dawn, their love will be eternal. The place is believed to possess a special energy capable of “capturing” feelings, so not only tourists but also newlyweds come here to take a symbolic step toward eternal love.
Locals say engagement ceremonies were once held here: men presented their beloveds with rings against the backdrop of the sea and promised fidelity. Today, the tradition continues—at the foot of the bridge, you can often see ribbons and hearts left by couples as a token of their affection.

Natural beauty and features of the place
Lovers’ Bridge is more than just a geological formation; it’s one of the most photogenic spots in Cyprus. The wind-polished white limestone and crystal-clear water create the perfect backdrop for photographs. The spot is especially stunning at sunrise and sunset, when the sun paints the rocks in golden and pink hues.
There’s no beach in the traditional sense nearby—the coastline is rocky. However, just to the east, there are cozy coves suitable for swimming and diving. From the top of the arch, a panoramic view opens out to the sea and the Ayia Napa coastline, and on a clear day, even Cape Greco is visible.
Below, at the base of the bridge, is a small cave accessible by boat or kayak. It’s a popular spot for divers and underwater photography enthusiasts: the sun casts an emerald hue on the water, and the arch casts shadows on the bottom.
Tourism and infrastructure
The Lovers’ Bridge is one of Ayia Napa’s key landmarks. It is accessible by a convenient paved road and a walking trail along the coast. The route is part of the Cape Greco National Forest Park, which features observation decks, benches, and rest areas.
There are no cafes or shops nearby, so it’s a good idea to bring water and a hat. Parking is about 200 meters from the observation deck, which offers the best views of the arch.
The bridge is protected by conservation authorities: walking on it is prohibited to prevent the erosion of the limestone rock. Although the arch appears sturdy, it is constantly exposed to wind and water, and to preserve it, visitors are limited to viewing from a safe distance.
Best time to visit
You can visit the Lovers’ Bridge year-round, but it’s most beautiful in spring and fall, when the weather is cooler and the sea retains its rich color. The best time of day is early morning or evening before sunset, when the sunlight falls at an angle and the cliffs shimmer with pink and gold hues.
Photographers note that at these hours, the arch’s reflection in the water creates perfect symmetry, especially when the sea is calm. In summer, at midday, the white cliffs are very reflective, so it’s best to use neutral density filters for photography.

What to see nearby
The Ayia Napa coastline, where the Lovers’ Bridge is located, is rich in natural and cultural attractions:
- Cape Greco is a natural park with hiking and cycling trails, caves and observation platforms;
- Ayia Napa Sea Caves are a network of grottoes and arches that can be reached by boat or kayak;
- The Church of Saint Anagyris (Agioi Anargyroi) is a snow-white chapel standing on a cliff with a panoramic view of the coast;
- The Cape Greco Viewpoint offers views of the Lovers’ Bridge and the sea to the horizon.
For active travelers, boat excursions are available: boats depart from the port of Ayia Napa and stop at the bridge for photo ops.
Romantic photo sessions and weddings
The Lovers’ Bridge has become one of the most recognizable symbols of romantic Cyprus. Symbolic wedding ceremonies, marriage proposals, and professional photo shoots are held here.
Many couples choose this location for their photo shoots precisely because of its combination of natural purity and symbolism. Music videos, commercials, and wedding films are often shot against the arch’s backdrop. Particularly sought-after shots include those where the sun sets directly behind the arch, creating a “ring of fire”—a symbol of eternal love.
Visiting rules and safety
Although the bridge attracts hundreds of tourists daily, it’s important to remember that the rocks it’s made of are fragile. Climbing the arch is prohibited—violation can result in collapse and a fine. Safe platforms and railings are provided for viewing.
Swimming under the arch is permitted, but only in calm waters; in windy weather, the waves can be strong and the seabed uneven. For diving or snorkeling, it is recommended to wear coral shoes and stay close to the shore.
How to get there
Lovers’ Bridge is about a 10-minute drive from the center of Ayia Napa. Head toward Cape Greco, then turn off at the “Love Bridge” sign. For hikers, there’s a coastal trail connecting Pantachou Beach and Cape Greco.
The drive from Protaras takes about 15 minutes, and from Larnaca, about an hour. You can also get here as part of a tour of the Akamas Nature Park or a boat cruise along the coast.

Lovers’ Bridge is more than just a natural landmark; it’s a place where romance meets the beauty of Cyprus. Here, the harmony of sea, cliffs, and sky creates an atmosphere of tranquility.
Even those who come here alone feel calm and inspired. This bridge has become a symbol not only of love, but also of the very nature of Cyprus—pure, bright, and eternal.
