Aura project , which is set to be the tallest 44-storey building in Cyprus and measures 181.5 meters in height, has finally received approval for construction on the Limassol waterfront .
The project has been under consideration since December 2019 and has consistently received approval, despite opposition from Mayor Nicos Nicolaides and others. Compensatory measures guaranteed by the municipality include the creation of a public square, a park, a cultural center and underground parking spaces.
Michalis AKEL’s Socrates and DISY’s Michalis Vasiliou expressed concerns about the economic feasibility, environmental impact and feasibility of this development. Michalis Socrates criticized the cluster of tall towers in the area, deeming the economic conditions unsuitable . Michalis Vasiliou questioned the compatibility of the tower with the narrow site, highlighting the potential negative consequences.
Mayor Nicolaides , who initially opposed the project, acknowledged the democratic process and affirmed the legitimacy of the Council’s decision.
Aura project , developed by Foster + Partners , is intended to be a modern ecological high-rise, seamlessly integrated into the urban fabric of Limassol . The project gives priority to the comfort of residents and landscaping of the territory: the high-rise rises above the city park to maintain a spatial and visual connection with the embankment, while improving ventilation and lighting.
