25.11.2022

The new look that Limassol is acquiring through the completion of various projects, the acquisition of modern infrastructure and the prospects for further development make it more humane and functional, President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiades said today.

Welcoming the laying of the foundation stone for the new wing of Limassol’s Second Technical School of Administration and Laboratories, President Anastasiades said that the projects also create conditions for a high quality of life for the benefit of the citizens, while highlighting the rare cultural and natural riches it possesses.

Speaking about the project, he said that our ultimate goal and goal is to make our schools modern, pedagogically modernized, functional and safe places of learning.

The development of new infrastructures and the expansion of existing ones to accommodate new programs and additional students is considered extremely important.

The project with a total budget of 6 million 550 thousand euros will include innovative architectural and technical facilities, as well as open areas for sports and recreation.

According to him, this project is added to others that have been implemented or are being implemented in the Limassol municipality.

He said he has been in Limassol since the morning, giving a tour of the projects that are underway, as well as opening a number of others that make Limassol a modern European city with modernized infrastructure and services. “Limassol is a pivotal city, a center of culture, education, social activity and economic activity.”

President Anastasiades said that no one can ignore the fact that in recent years, the city has seen an intense business and tourism activity, attracting new investment and creating jobs, which has brought comparative advantages and benefits in the economic, commercial, tourism and cultural level.

He congratulated the mayor as well as the members of the municipal council for the cooperation between them, which “led to an admittedly impressive transformation of the municipality”.

President Anastasiadis made it clear that the government, and he personally, “does not care about local preferences regarding the promotion of development and infrastructure projects.”

For local governments, which have the will and ability to develop projects that are really necessary to improve the quality of life of their citizens, it was quite clear during the ten years of government that they can count on our support, always within the financial capabilities of the state, but also in combination with European funds.

“Today, no one will recognize Paphos in 2013. This is a completely new city. Nobody ignores what is being done in Nicosia, renewed Nicosia, the same in Larnaca,” he said, adding that he will go on tour to highlight what some may eventually forget. “We are focusing on local government” , – he said, – “we really struggled with the determination to win European funds, with the help of a sober fiscal policy, to succeed in a short time after the recovery of the country in the economic crisis, in order to be able to announce and implement projects from 2015 that are fixed and will remain as signs proving that with close cooperation between central and local governments, much can be achieved.”

President Anastasiadis made special mention of the projects that have led to the economic, cultural and social development of the city, noting that since taking over they have been or are being implemented in the Municipality of Limassol with a decisive contribution from the government, either through the allocation of national funds or through co-financing from the European Union, 79 projects with a total value of 490 million euros.
