Larnaca strengthens environmental infrastructure with modern waste collection point

On Friday, a contract for the construction of the new Green was signed at the office of the Larnaca District Government Organisation (DGO). Point is a modern center for the collection, sorting, and temporary storage of waste and materials destined for recycling and reuse. The project is being implemented with financial support from the Recovery and Sustainability Plan and will cost approximately €950,000.

What is Green Point ?

Green Point is a specially equipped point where residents can safely dispose of household waste, such as furniture, electrical appliances, building materials, textiles, and other items that are not suitable for regular containers.

What will be built?

The temporary waste collection point, which has been operating in the Larnaca area, will be completely renovated to meet national standards. The new facility will be part of the official  network Green Point of Cyprus.

The project provides for:

  1. Modernization of existing structures.
  2. New sections for receiving, sorting and temporary storage of waste.
  3. Monitoring, video surveillance and fire safety systems.
  4. Comfortable and safe areas for receiving visitors.
  5. Accessible conditions for all categories of the population.

The project’s main goal is to strengthen recycling culture and increase citizen engagement in material recycling. The project will also help:

  • reduce the level of unauthorized waste dumping;
  • improve processing rates;
  • to develop environmental awareness among the population;
  • improve the overall environmental situation in the area.

Larnaca’s Environmental Strategy

Initiative to create a new Green Point is part of Larnaca’s strategic plan to strengthen the circular economy and sustainable development. The implementation of modern facilities of this type is aimed at improving residents’ quality of life, protecting the environment, and meeting national waste management targets.

The project will be implemented by the Araco consortium Construction Ltd & S. Hadjichristofi Construction Ltd, with the participation of the engineering company Access Design Ltd and representatives of the Larnaca Municipality.

Completion of the work will provide residents with access to a modern, safe, and functional center that promotes a culture of environmental responsibility.
