17.08.2022

Another landmark project is entering the process of implementation, which will highlight the centuries-old historical heritage of Paphos in a modern and attractive way, while increasing the number of visitors to the traditional city center. The building in central Kennedy Square, which has housed the Paphos Police Department for decades and will be converted into the Paphos Historical Documentation Center by decision of the Municipal Council, has begun to undergo the necessary facelift in the past few days for the necessary transformations in that direction.

The work will continue at an intensive pace for their completion in a short time, as a corresponding study has also been prepared. The contract was signed in mid-June by Paphos Mayor Faidonas Faidonos with a representative of the contracting consortium for a total amount of 81,336 euros.

The Mayor of Paphos described the project as unique in Cyprus and especially important for the city, because thanks to the use of modern digital technologies with 3D visualization and augmented reality, the historical route and evolution of the city from 300 BC. 20th century, and natural objects will be included in the space.

The building of the former Paphos Central Police Station is a two-story building with an area of about 940 sq.m. while the study will include open space for use.

Faidonas Faidonos himself also stressed that citizens are particularly interested in handing over the documents and other materials they have to the authorities so that they can be part of the exhibits. As an example, the Mayor of Paphos referred to the recently deceased former high school teacher and an important participant in the social and sports life of the city, Andreas Kokkinos, who until the last days systematically and quietly worked on the preparation of an important project that will be transferred to the Municipality of Paphos for the purposes of the Documentation Centre.

“This material will be donated by the family of Blessed Andreas Kokkinos,” emphasized Mr. Faidonas, “and will feature prominently at the Center when it is completed.”
