Infrastructure projects worth hundreds of millions of euros have begun in Larnaca

Larnaca Organisation of Local Authority (EOA) has announced the launch of a series of large-scale infrastructure projects, the total cost of which is estimated at hundreds of millions of euros.

All necessary studies and tender documentation will be completed by the end of 2025, after which the bid submission and task allocation phase will begin. Project funding will come from both the budget of the Republic of Cyprus and EU funds.

The largest project of the EDA will be the implementation of the fourth phase of the sewerage system, covering the settlements of Aradippou , Livadia, Voroklini , and Pyla. The total cost of the project is €270 million. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027 and be completed in 2033.

At the same time, work is underway to construct a storm drain in the central commercial area of Larnaca , including Grigoris Avenue. Afxentiou and adjacent streets. This project is 80% funded by the EU’s THALEIA 2021-2027 programme and aims to improve the urban environment.

In the Livadia district, construction of a local sewerage system for 170 private homes is also ongoing, with guaranteed funding from the Ministry of Agriculture. This includes laying pipelines, installing manholes, and connecting to the main system.

One of the most significant flood protection projects has been the construction of flood protection systems in the Kamares area of Larnaca. The project includes the creation of new canals and bridges, as well as the deepening and strengthening of the riverbed. All work is being carried out under the supervision of the Department of Antiquities, taking into account the historical significance of the area.

A separate project to install a stormwater drainage system in the same area is also underway to reduce the load on the streets during rainy seasons. The combined implementation of these two initiatives creates environmental protection against the effects of climate change.

Construction of the KA pumping station has begun in the coastal area of Oroklini, which is designed to solve a long-standing environmental problem associated with excess moisture and wastewater.

There are also plans to implement project EOAL 42/2025, which includes the installation of new household connections to the existing sewer network in areas where there is active construction and the inclusion of new settlements into the general infrastructure.

All projects are being implemented with due regard for the principles of environmental development, transparency, and technical safety. District authorities are confident that the new utility infrastructure will provide a solid foundation for future growth and create a comfortable environment for residents and investors.
