More than 75 projects with a total budget exceeding €230 million are being implemented in Paphos. This was announced by President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides at an extended meeting with local authorities and public organizations. The event was held as part of his visit to municipalities and communities across Cyprus.
The President noted that the Paphos region is acquiring increased strategic importance in defense and security thanks to the modernization of the Andreas Papandreou Air Base in cooperation with the United States. This partnership confirms Cyprus’s important role as a pillar of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
One of the area’s signature projects will be the new Paphos Marina, which will cover 165,000 square meters and accommodate up to 1,000 pleasure boats. This large-scale initiative promises not only to enhance the area’s tourism potential but also to create hundreds of new jobs and establish Paphos as a leading maritime and tourist destination in the region.
At the same time, plans are underway to create a Cultural Park and Amphitheater in Acheleia , as well as digitally upgrade the Paphos Archaeological Museum. Important projects include the renovation of the pedestrian bridges in the Chrysopolitissa area and the restoration of the Ancient Odeon of Paphos. These initiatives will enhance the area’s cultural significance and allow for the hosting of international events.
Education
The government is actively investing in education, expanding the after-school program for upper secondary schools and opening six new schools with improved curricula. A key part of the strategy has been the creation of new educational institutions: the conversion of Kindergarten No. 1 and Primary School No. 7 in the St. Kendée district into a modern upper secondary school and primary school.
Projects are also underway to modernize primary schools in Timi and Chloraka, with investments of €2 and €4 million, respectively, as well as expand the lyceum and technical school in Embasa . All these measures are aimed at creating schools of the future, with a focus on modern learning and student safety.
Healthcare
In the healthcare sector, the reconstruction of Paphos General Hospital will be completed, including the renovation of the Trauma and Emergency Department, with a budget of €3 million. Over the past few months, the Rapid Response Clinic has served over 1,700 patients, representing 35% of the total patient flow.
An additional €5 million is being invested in the creation of a day hospital and in upgrading the pediatric and gynecology departments. A new pulmonology clinic with a budget of €100,000 is opening, which will significantly improve the quality of medical care for residents of the area.
Social policy
Particular attention is being paid to the social sphere: a Model Center for Long-Term Care and Employment for the Elderly is being built, which will provide residential services, day care, and creative employment. The Nefelis nursing home project is also underway. ” Talioti ” in Chloraka in collaboration with local authorities. These initiatives demonstrate the state’s genuine concern for the elderly.
Transport
An important part of the area’s development is the construction and modernization of the road network. The Paphos-Polis highway is being built, with additional access via Mesogi . A new section of road connecting Paphos and Geroskipou with the airport is being completed.
Projects to build the Western and Northern Bypasses, with budgets of €11 million and €4.5 million, are underway, while Embasa Avenue (€9.5 million ) and Apostolou Pavlou Street (€7 million) are being widened. All these measures will improve road safety and reduce traffic congestion.
Environmental projects
Environmental initiatives are a key element in Paphos’s development. These include the installation of a mobile desalination plant in Kissonerga, costing €14.7 million, support for small private desalination plants in hotels, the construction of breakwaters on the southwest coast, and the construction of a fire station in Peyia (€6.7 million). These projects are aimed at protecting the environment, increasing resilience to climate change, and improving public safety.
In the Paphos area, improvement work continues on squares and main roads in Inia (€1.5 million ), Kelokedara , and Kouklia (€2.5 million each), and the reconstruction of the Tremithousa – Mesogi bridge (€3 million) has been completed. Road network upgrades are underway in Koili , Chad, Tala, Tremithousa , and Mesa . Chorio and Armou . Particular attention is given to the implementation of the Akamas National Forest Park environmental development plan and the establishment of a local coordination office in Akamas .
