In 2026, the Polis Chrysochous area will begin implementing large-scale projects worth around 100 million euros. According to Mayor Yiotis Papachristophis , the work will cover key areas of urban and tourist infrastructure.
Among the main projects are:
- expansion and modernization of Lachi port to accommodate more ships and develop marine tourism;
- construction of a sewerage system that will improve the environmental situation and create conditions for further investment;
- improvement of the historical centres of Polis Chrysochous and Prodromi;
- development of archaeological sites that attract tourists;
- creation of an amphitheater for cultural and social events.
The mayor noted that the projects had been in preparation for several years and were now entering the stage of their practical implementation. According to him, together with other national initiatives, the Polis Chrysochous area will be at the center of Cyprus’ development in the coming decades.
Particular importance is attached not only to large state projects, but also to private investments. Already in 2026, a large hotel complex is planned to open in the Lachi area, which should significantly increase the tourist flow.
In parallel with the large-scale projects, the municipality, together with the Ministry of Tourism, is implementing smaller programs worth about 700 thousand euros. These works will affect various municipal areas of Polis Chrysochous and will be completed this year.
The new infrastructure is expected to help stem the outflow of young people, create jobs and strengthen the region’s economy. In addition to tourism, positive changes will affect agriculture and livestock farming, as local producers will be able to actively sell their products to tourists and hotel complexes.
According to the mayor, the development of Polis Chrysochous will ensure not only a modern look for the area, but also comprehensive growth in all key areas – from tourism to the agricultural sector.
