The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou, visited the port in the village of Pomos, located in the picturesque Akamas region, to assess the current state and discuss plans with local authorities. The meeting raised issues of deepening the harbour, modernising the entrance to the port and improving the berths for ships.
Environmental and strategic significance of the project
The government emphasizes the importance of ecological development in areas such as Pomos. The fishing port, built 40 years ago, requires significant modernization to meet modern standards. Plans call for deepening the port and improving the infrastructure, which will ensure its comfortable use by fishermen and open up new opportunities for tourist vessels.
Polis Mayor Chrysochous Yiotis Papachristofi and Pomos Deputy Mayor Andreas Dionysiou thanked the Minister for his attention to the region. They noted that the modernization of the fishing port will improve working conditions for fishermen and create additional opportunities for tourism development.
The Minister gave instructions to ensure the smooth functioning of the port and stressed that the harbour expansion project, which includes the possibility of receiving pleasure boats, will contribute to the development of the local economy.
Prospects for the region
Upgrading the infrastructure of the fishing port will benefit both local residents and the tourism industry. The expansion of the harbor will create conditions for receiving tourist yachts, which will strengthen the region’s position as a center for ecotourism.
The modernization of the port in Pomos is an example of how investments in remote areas can contribute to the development of the local economy and improve the quality of life. The implementation of this project will be a step towards the ecological development of the region and strengthening its tourist attractiveness.
