The Famagusta District Chamber of Commerce and Industry expresses its serious dissatisfaction and concern over the ongoing unjustified delays in the redevelopment of the Potamos Liopetri area. This project is of vital importance to the local economy, but its delay is causing serious difficulties for fishermen, restaurateurs, residents and the development of the area as a whole.
The reconstruction work began in 2020 and was originally scheduled for completion in March 2023. However, two years after the deadline, the project remains unfinished, highlighting the shortcomings in management and the authorities’ inability to ensure that the planned activities are carried out.
The delays in the works have a negative impact on many aspects of the area. Fishermen are facing problems in their work, restaurants are losing customers, and locals are suffering from the lack of necessary improvements. Moreover, such delays hinder the development of the tourism potential of the Famagusta area and, ultimately, the economy of Cyprus.
The Famagusta District Chamber of Commerce and Industry calls on the Government and the President of the Republic of Cyprus to take urgent measures to remove all obstacles. This includes replacing the contractor if necessary and fulfilling all obligations in accordance with the announced plans. The completion of the project is vital not only for the Liopetri district and the city of Ayia Napa, but also for the entire Famagusta district, contributing to the improvement of the tourism infrastructure of Cyprus.
