Harmonized inflation in Cyprus continued to rise in August 2022, albeit at a slower pace than the previous month, recording an increase of 9.6% year-on-year, according to a report released on Friday by the Statistical Office of Cyprus (Cystat).
According to the report, which provides a preliminary estimate by Eurostat, the harmonized consumer price index and, therefore, the harmonized inflation in August 2022 increased by 9.6% compared to August 2021, and compared to the previous month – by 0.5%.
Between January and August 2022, there was an increase of 8 percent compared to the corresponding period last year.
In July 2022, the Harmonized Consumer Price Index increased by 10.6% compared to July 2021.
Compared to August 2021, the largest growth was observed in the housing sector, water supply, electricity and liquefied gas, as well as in transport – by 30% and 19.5%, respectively.
In relation to July 2022, the largest change was recorded in the field of recreation and culture – 2.6%.
For the period from January to August 2022, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the biggest changes were observed in the housing sector, water supply, electricity and liquefied gas by 21.6%, as well as in transport by 16%.

According to the report, total sales of domestically produced industrial products fell to 3.4 billion euros in 2020, compared to 3.5 billion euros in 2019.
Sales of halloumi reached 42,200 tons worth €285.5 million, sales of pasteurized milk and cream reached 63 million liters worth €77.5 million and sales of fresh fruit juices amounted to 50,800 tons worth €31.8 million.
Sales of meat products (sausages) reached 39.3 million euros, fresh pastries and confectionery 244.3 million euros, and sales of beer 31.1 million liters worth 32.3 million euros.
The Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) ended Friday, September 16, with a loss.
The overall Cypriot stock market index stood at 74.11 points at 13:21 during the day, reflecting a 0.09% drop from the previous trading day.
The FTSE/CySE 20 Index stood at 44.54, down 0.13%.
The total transaction value was 52,435 euros.
As for the sub-indices, the main index and the index of investment companies decreased by 0.29% and 2.83%, respectively, while the alternative index rose by 0.02%. The hotel index remained stable.
Bank of Cyprus (+0.75%), Petrolina (no change), Hellenic Bak (-0.22%), Logicom (no change) and Cyprus Cement Company (no change) attracted the highest investment interest.
