According to the Cyprus Statistics Service, environmental expenditure in industry reached 0.15% of GDP in 2023.
According to a study carried out by the Statistical Office, total environmental expenditure in industry in 2023 is estimated at 36.9 million euros, corresponding to 0.15% of gross domestic product, compared to 33.6 million euros or 0.15% of GDP in 2022.
By sector of economic activity, manufacturing reported expenditure of €32.2 million, mining and electricity €4.4 million, and wastewater treatment and water utilities €0.2 million.
In the manufacturing sector, environmental activities in the production of other non-metallic mineral products amounted to 13.1 million euros, food production – 11.5 million euros, production of pharmaceutical products and drugs – 1.6 million euros. million and production of chemicals and chemical products for 1.5 million euros.
In the environmental sector, costs associated with reducing air emissions amounted to 15.3 million euros, for monitoring, treatment and disposal of waste – 12.6 million euros, for wastewater treatment – 6.9 million euros and 2.2 million euros for reducing noise and vibration, protecting soil and groundwater, and protecting natural resources and biodiversity.
