Limassol port management company DP World Limassol on Friday announced the launch of another year of a three-month internship program for students pursuing education in shipping or related fields, noting that this is part of the company’s commitment to contribute to the development of Cyprus by introducing newcomers to labor market.
A total of eight undergraduate and graduate students from the Cyprus University of Technology (Tepak), Frederick and the European University of Cyprus were able to gain first-hand, real-life experience in their chosen field. The trainees worked side by side with the staff of DP World Limassol, participating in various projects and gaining valuable skills and experience. In addition, experienced DP World Limassol professionals were by their side every step of the way, offering their valuable advice and support.
In their written evaluation of the internship program, the students noted that studying under the guidance of industry experts was an unforgettable experience for them, which helped them to better understand the practical aspect of training.
Speaking about her overall internship experience at DP World Limassol Department of Health and Safety, Kristia Paraskeva said: “DP World Limassol has helped me grow professionally by working with gifted and kind people. DPWL’s standards are high enough to achieve any set goal, and for me it was an unforgettable experience and I am grateful for this chance.”
Marianna Karagiorgi, who worked in the finance department while at DPWL, said she found the internship beneficial for her professional growth as it helped her develop key skills. She also said that this opportunity gave her a chance to put her education into practice. “It is very unusual to see how some of the things that we learned in theory are applied in practice,” she noted, Karagiorgi said.
In addition, Andreas Soteriou said that working in the operating room was a valuable lesson that will help him in his professional career. “It was a life experience that helped me better understand the shipping industry,” he said, adding that he thought it would give him a career boost.
On behalf of DP World Limassol, Human Resources Manager Marina Christofi stressed that investing in education and training is an integral part of the philosophy of DP World Group. “Our company’s goal is to actively support each community in which we operate by sharing our knowledge and experience with the local population. This includes preparing the next generation for careers in the rapidly growing maritime industry.”
Additionally, Christofi said that internships are an integral part of the career ladder as they can bridge the gap between education and the working world. To this end, she explained, the company has partnered with leading local higher education institutions to provide high-quality internship opportunities.
“By completing an internship at the port, students can gain a comprehensive and practical understanding of the shipping industry,” Christofi said.
“At the same time, interns are highly educated people who are eager to learn and can make a valuable contribution to the team by bringing fresh ideas,” she added, noting that “internships are an equally rewarding experience for both us and students.” .

The chamber added that the creation of such a zone would best contribute to strengthening the culture of cooperation, innovation, knowledge transfer and innovative entrepreneurship, while facilitating communication and symbiosis between companies, entrepreneurs and scientists.

The proposed facilities at the State Fair grounds will include the construction of offices and other shared workplaces, a science and innovation center, a business center, and a high standard exhibition and conference space of 10,000 square meters to accommodate a wide range of conferences and other events. .
