Dozens of €198 million projects are changing and upgrading Paphos

Projects that have been completed, projects that are underway and projects that will start within the next six months in the city of Paphos total 89 pieces with a total budget of 198 million euros, Paphos Mayor Faidonas said , making a written assessment municipality project.

Of the 89 projects, 65 have already been implemented by the Municipality of Paphos, 9 by the State and 15 are underway or will start in the next 6 months, all by the Municipality of Paphos. He also noted that out of 89 projects, 41 were funded or co-financed by the state or the European Union and Paphos municipality, while the remaining 48 were funded or co-financed entirely by the municipality.

Of the 198 million euros that will make up the total cost of these 89 projects, 55 million will come from the budget of the Municipality of Paphos, while the remaining 143 million will go to funding from the European Union and the state. He added that in 2015 the municipality’s borrowing was 38 million, today it is just over 10 million, and according to him, they have a reserve of 8 million in their fund to be able to finance projects.

“New Diamond”

According to Mr. Faidonos , during 2022 the renovation of the Paphos Archaeological Museum was opened and completed. The beautification of the municipal market and the beautification of Fellahoglu Street and two adjacent parking lots were opened in 2022 after the completion of the project. He also continued, handed over and inaugurated the renovation and promotion project of Psarochorio in Kato Paphos.

The project has a budget of 1.8 million euros and is co-financed by the EU (European Marine and Fisheries Fund 2014-2020) and the Republic of Cyprus. According to Paphos Mayor Faidonas Faidonos , the project was carried out by the Municipality of Paphos during the period 2019-2020.

Also in 2022, the project of unified archaeological sites of Kato Paphos was opened.

The Mayor of Paphos called the project a “new gem” for the city and noted that its completion contributes to the further development and attendance of the area, which is one of the most historical in the Mediterranean, included in the UNESCO cultural heritage list.

He added that the overall project covers an area of about 20,000 square meters and includes, in addition to the suspension pedestrian bridge already installed, three squares, pedestrian streets, special routes, etc. The total cost of the project is 2,022,000 euros plus VAT. According to Mr. Faidonos , the project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus.

In addition, he continued, in 2022, the opening of the revival and promotion of Psarochorio in Kato Paphos took place. Education projects

Mr. Faidonos dwelled in detail on projects related to education. According to him, “the foundation stone for the TEPAK facilities in Paphos has already been laid,” and construction of the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo is expected to begin . Both universities will open their doors to the first students in ten months, creating a real event in the field of education and higher education.

According to the Mayor of Paphos, the intention of the American University of Beirut to establish a medical school in Paphos using the Paphos General Hospital as a university hospital is a very important development for the city of Paphos, as such a project will make Paphos a center of excellence in the provision of university education and health services.

Mr. Faidonos referred to the strategic goal of Paphos to acquire university infrastructure through cooperation with internationally recognized and prestigious educational institutions in Cyprus and abroad. Thanks to hard work, proper planning, responsible attitude and shrewd political support from President Anastasiadis , and without underestimating the contribution of other institutions or individuals, the achievement of this goal has been launched and is moving forward at a rapid pace.

Mr. Faidonos expressed his conviction that the arrival of the Cyprus Technological University and the American University of Beirut in Paphos marks the transition of the city into a new era and is an event of great benefit to the country.
