Development of the Paralimni-Dherinia area: new roads, parks and social initiatives worth €10 million

According to Mayor Georgios Nikoletos, the total value of completed projects in the Paralimni-Deryneia Municipality and the Deryneia, Frenaros, and Acheritos districts by 2025 exceeded €10 million. Funding was provided by the state, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, and the Famagusta Tourism Development and Promotion Company ( ETAP ). The main goal of the work was to achieve balanced development across all parts of the municipality and improve the quality of life for residents.

Key achievements in Paralimni

In the central part of the municipality, Paralimni, the main event was the completion of a large-scale road project on Kapparis Avenue . The project cost €6.43 million (plus VAT). The project, 80% financed by the state, significantly improved transport accessibility to the coastal area, indirectly enhancing the attractiveness of local residential properties .

Other important sites include:

  • Paralimni Children’s Club: A €2 million socially significant project aimed at supporting families.
  • The Isaac and Solomos Monument , dedicated to memory and historical responsibility, honours the memory of the martyred heroes of Paralimni, Thassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos, almost 30 years after their brutal murder at the checkpoint in Deryneia.
  • Improvements: A pedestrian bridge was built on Irakli Hadjirakli Street, signs on the embankment were updated, and St. George and St. Barbara Parks were modernized.

Projects in Deryneia, Phrenaros and Acherithu

The Deryneia region received two major infrastructure projects. The first was the Deryneia Public Market, costing €1.5 million and implemented with the support of European funds. The second was the strategically important Deryneia-Sotira road, the total cost of which reached €13.5 million. The amphitheater’s water park was also renovated.

In the Frenaros municipality, the emphasis was on maintaining identity:

  • A park has been developed near the chapel of Panagia Asprovouniotissa.
  • Four public parks have been modernized.
  • Traditional fountains are installed at various points.

In Acheritou, the construction of a new hall for ceremonial events has been completed and the restoration of the Chapel of St. George has been completed.

Integration issues and a look into the future

Georgios Nikoletos expressed satisfaction with the work accomplished, noting that 2025 was a challenging year due to local government reform and the merger of four administrative units. Despite the bureaucratic complexities, the municipality managed to lay a solid foundation for unified strategic planning.

Regarding Kokkinochoria’s sewerage system, the mayor explained that these responsibilities have now been transferred to the Famagusta District Local Government Organization (FDO). The municipality continues to work closely with this organization to ensure the smooth operation of the systems for the benefit of residents. High-quality development of utility networks and roads creates fertile ground for further construction, whether it be one-, two- , or three-bedroom residential properties in the new residential areas of the district.
