Deposits in the banking system of Cyprus at the end of 2021 amounted to 51.52 billion euros, an increase of 3.31 billion euros compared to December 2020, according to data published by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC).
Total loans at the end of December 2021 amounted to 29.9 billion euros, down 0.87 billion euros, reflecting the continued deleveraging of banks’ loan portfolios.
Liquidity in the banking system at the end of 2021 amounted to 21.6 billion euros.
According to the CBC, total deposits recorded a net increase in December 2021, i.e. excluding changes caused by reclassifications, exchange rates and other adjustments of €331.2 million, after a net increase of €480.8 million in November 2021.
The annual growth rate in December 2021 was 5.7% compared to 5.8% in November 2021.
Total loans in December 2021 recorded a net increase of €386 million compared to a net decrease of €3.9 million in November 2021.
The annual growth rate was 0.8% compared to 1.4% in November 2021, the CBC added.
