According to Monetary Institutions (MFI) deposit and loan statistics released by the Central Bank of Cyprus on Tuesday, total deposits increased by 173.7 million euros in August, while loans decreased by 100 million euros, the release said ” Monetary and Financial Statistics” for September 2022.
According to the CBC, total deposits in August recorded a net increase of €173.7m compared to a net decrease of €183.9m in July. The annual growth rate was 0.6% compared to 1.3% in July. The outstanding amount of deposits in August reached 51.5 billion euros.
By contrast, total loans in August recorded a net decrease of €100m compared to a net decrease of €162.7m in July. The annual growth rate was 2% compared to 1.9% in July 2022, and outstanding loans reached EUR 28.5 billion in August 2022.
CBC explains that the term “net decrease/increase” is a “transactions” term, which means that it does not include changes due to reclassifications, exchange rates and other adjustments.
