The University of Cyprus has announced the start of construction of new student dormitories, which will be equipped with modern facilities and will offer comfortable living conditions for students at affordable prices. The cost of the project will be 70 million euros, which is lower than the previously announced 91 million euros.
The university management emphasizes that the expansion of student dormitories has become one of the priorities since 2019. Negotiations are underway with government agencies to implement the project in order to include it in the list of facilities financed with the support of the European Union.
The university also refuted the incorrect information spread in the media about the cost of the project and its scale. According to new data, the total cost of construction will be 70 million euros and will provide for the creation of 900 places instead of the previously planned 730. The cost of construction per square meter does not exceed 1,720 euros, which was considered economically justified.
The project includes not only residential premises, but also the creation of convenient infrastructure: parking, public areas and recreation areas. The entire territory will be adapted to the concept of “smart and green” space, which will make living more comfortable and safe. The start of construction is scheduled for 2025, and all buildings will be designed taking into account modern environmental standards.
