Cyprus Real Estate Agents Exams: Candidate Registration and Requirements for 2024

The Cyprus Real Estate Agents Registration Board has announced that examinations will be held for new candidates on Saturday, 26 October 2024. These examinations are mandatory for anyone who wants to register with the official register of the Cyprus Real Estate Agents Registration Board and practice professional activity in the real estate sector.

According to Marinus Kinaieiro , the examinations are provided for by the “Real Estate Agents Law” and are aimed at testing candidates’ knowledge of the land and urban planning legislation of the Republic of Cyprus. This knowledge is necessary so that agents can carry out their duties conscientiously and professionally.

The examination will be conducted in Greek and candidates will be required to demonstrate an understanding of a number of key pieces of legislation. These include the Real Estate Act (Cap. 224), which regulates ownership, registration and valuation of real estate, and the Transfer and Mortgage Act (No. 9 of 1965). Also included in the examination are the Acts concerning Land Department Fees and Duties (Cap. 219), the Sale of Real Estate Act 2011 (No. 81( I )/2011), which regulates the performance of obligations, and the Streets and Buildings Regulation Act (Cap. 96). In addition, candidates must be familiar with the provisions of the Town Planning Act 1972 (No. 90/1972) and the Real Estate Agents Act 2010 (No. 71( I )/2010).

To participate in the examinations, candidates must submit an online application by 2:00 pm on Thursday 26 September 2024 and pay a fee of €100. Candidates must also meet the criteria set out in the Estate Agents Law. These include being a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus or another EU country, not being bankrupt or legally incompetent, and not having been convicted of offences involving fraud or immorality.

Applicants must also hold a recognised diploma evidencing the successful completion of at least three years of postgraduate education or its equivalent in subjects relevant to the real estate profession, and have completed at least 12 months of professional training as a registered assistant to a real estate agent in Cyprus.
