The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Public Works together with the Ministry of Culture of Cyprus announced the signing of a contract for the implementation of the project “Supply and installation of membranes in the archaeological complex of Kourion”. The total cost of the project is €1,294,500 excluding VAT. The works will begin at the end of August and will continue for 12 months.
The project involves the complete replacement of the existing membranes on the canopies of the archaeological site of Kourion and the Visitor Centre. The new coverings should provide reliable protection of the historic structures from weather conditions, including waterproofing and protection from the sun.
The list of objects where the work will take place includes:
- House of Eustolia,
- House of Gladiators,
- House of Achilles,
- Visitor Center,
- ticket office at the gates of Amathus and Apollo,
- Baths of Apollo.
In addition to the membranes, the project includes the installation of components, clamps and windscreens, as well as maintenance work.
The contract was concluded following an open tender. On behalf of the state, it was signed by the Director of the Department of Public Works, Eleftherios Eleftheriou , and from L&S TECHNOMACHINE LTD – director Akis Luka.
Funding is provided from national resources within the framework of the program of the Department of Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture of Cyprus. The program aims to systematically maintain archaeological areas, modernize infrastructure and improve the quality of visits for tourists and researchers.
