The Paphos Municipality officially launched a project to create two modern museums designed to strengthen the city’s cultural infrastructure and contribute to its tourism and educational development. The contract signing ceremony took place on September 29, marking the start of work on the Georgios K. Tornaritis Museum of Natural History and Art and the Multi-Thematic Museum , which will display art collections and objects of historical value.
The total project cost is €1,856,623.10 including VAT , and the completion period is 10 months from the start of work. Construction will take place in the old center of Paphos, on the site of former warehouses.
The project was developed by renowned specialists: architect Andreas Vardas , civil engineer Kleopas Papanikolaou , mechanical engineer Michalis Mourouzidis , electrician Charalambos Sophocleous and surveyor Michalis Kiriakidis .
According to architect Andreas Vardas , the museums will be harmoniously integrated into the historic fabric of the district. Particular attention was paid to the restoration and preservation of the unique architectural appearance during the design. The museums will not only enliven the city center but also become significant cultural tourism attractions . They will attract not only tourists but also those interested in the history, art, and scientific heritage of the region.
The architect emphasized the project’s importance for young people and schoolchildren, as the museums will become spaces for learning about art and history from an early age. Paphos Mayor Faidonas Faidonos noted that once the work is completed, the city will have two modern centers that will promote cultural development, connect the past with the present, and open up prospects for the future.
Both museums will be housed in renovated former warehouses, emphasizing the idea of reviving the area. At the same time, other city projects are underway in the area: the construction of student dormitories, the launch of four new mini-hotels with 170 rooms, and the modernization of the Paphos Shopping Center, scheduled for next year.
